In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Merciful. 10th Anniversary Ramadan Kareem! The time has come for you to enjoy the blessings of this holy month. Remember to fast and pray so that your sins may be forgiven or overlooked because He is forgiving and merciful. With fasting comes many blessings such as renewed faith, mercy for oneself and others, forgiveness of sins, strengthening our faith by putting our trust in God rather than worldly desires, self-esteem by knowing that we are stronger than our appetites and not slaves to them. By fasting, we learn how to control our desire for food, drink, and worldly pleasure. This issue takes you to the celebrations of the two Eids, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. On both occasions, Muslims performed Eid prayers after offering their sacrifices. Have you offered your sacrifice? You can take this opportunity to make a firm resolve to do good deeds during the remainder of the blessed month of Ramadan. The Prophet Muhammad reminded us that Ramadan is a month full of blessings for those who are blessed by God with its days. We are still living in times where terrorism is on the rise all over the world. Our message is to fight evil with good. Please make an effort to report suspicious activities to the proper authorities or Muslim organizations. We are working to ensure that our youth are not led away by calls that are contrary to the teachings of Islam. We have set up an Anti-Terrorism Task Force in New Jersey, founded by Al-Qalam Principal Dr. Tahir Ali, to work closely with law enforcement officials in our area. We are dedicated to spreading the message of peace, harmony, love and brotherhood. This issue also features the schedule for the 2006-2007 winter season of our youth programs. Please plan to join us next month at the Al-Qalam Cultural Center in Irvington, New Jersey. We hope that you will find this issue thought provoking. You can contribute your insight by writing us or submitting an article about an issue that is important to you. We appreciate your feedback on how we can improve ourselves as Muslims and as Americans. This magazine is for our community, but we want it to reflect all of your thoughts and ideas. We appreciate your constructive criticism to help us grow. In this issue, we have a profile of a very special woman in our community, Mrs. Norma Haddad. Please take a moment to read about her in our feature article "An Open Invitation". Also featured in this issue is a description of the Al-Qalam Cultural Center in Irvington, NJ. This center serves as the headquarters to many of our educational programs that are open to the public. In addition, it is also available for you to rent for your special occasions such as weddings and receptions. cfa1e77820
